Communication is more than just talking and listening – it’s also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language. As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. Join us to explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease. Sign up for this program is required (778-9344).
An Assistor from NY State of Health will be here to help you find a health insurance plan to meet your needs on Wednesday, November 1st from 10am – 1pm.
October is One Book One County month for Niagara County. Residents are encouraged to read the selected title and pick from one of eleven book discussion events hosted by the Niagara County libraries!
The title chosen for this year is The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict: “In the tradition of The Paris Wife and Mrs. Poe, The Other Einstein offers us a window into a brilliant, fascinating woman whose light was lost in Einstein’s enormous shadow. It is the story of Einstein’s wife, a brilliant physicist in her own right, whose contribution to the special theory of relativity is hotly debated and may have been inspired by her own profound and very personal insight.”
The book discussion for Newfane Public Library is hosted by the Wine & Book Club, which meets the second Wednesday of the month at The Shoppe On Main (2714 Main Street, Newfane) at 7pm. This month we will be meeting on October 11th. All are welcome to attend!
At the end of the month is An Evening With the Author: Marie Benedict, an author talk & book signing at Lockport Public Library on Tuesday, October 24th at 6:30pm in the Community Meeting Room.
